John McCain has a tough choice to make in the next few days, and I'm not talking about his VP pick. One of the things that caused Bush to lose his support among Americans was the way his administration handled Hurricane Katrina. They seemed unorganized, incompetent, and at the worse, apathetic. Now I don't think GW didn't care about the people, but his ADMINISTRATION seemed uncaring, and the buck stops with him. Now, the Republican National Convention is being held next week, at the same time that another Hurricane is barreling down on New Orleans, with ANOTHER storm brewing in the Caribbean. The choice he has to make is whether or not to continue with the GOP convention or postpone it. If they continue, and Hurricane Gustav is a monster, once again the Republicans seem uncaring and aloof. If they don't have the convention, they won't get the press time and the publicity they want.
So, here's what I would do if I were John McCain. I would cancel the convention and get my butt down to New Orleans right now and start helping with the pre-storm preparations (boarding up windows, helping evacuate families, etc...) and then ride out the storm in a shelter with all of the other people who couldn't leave. What better way to show America he will be a caring individual than to ACTUALLY CARE!
